I did read the posts before I posted the post you quoted from me. only one person said they wouldn't and one person said they couldn't decide without knowing all the details and the others started talking about whether or not an animal's life being worth more than a human's. so yea, that's pretty much everyone up until that point. still is, I think at least 95% would do the same as the father did

btw, you can always count on dog threads getting derailed.

Hello; You are correct, the large portion of those responding have agreeded with the fathers action. This is encouraging as the minority opinion just does not make sense to me.
That the boy should not have a chance to have his finger fixed being a proper life "lesson learned" does not make sense to me.

That some would want to know if the boy did something to provoke the animal does not make sense to me.

That some sort of surgery should be arranged to get the finger in order to keep the dog alive does not makle sense to me. Such surgery would likely take hours, perhaps days, to schedule and by then it would very likely be too late to give the reattachment a chance.

That the father should recieve some additional punishment make some sense but leaves me questoning the intent. Perhaps to find some person to blame other than the animal in question? Perhaps to further punish the father because his set up allowed the child to be in danger? My guess is that the father is likely very upset with himself as it is and will have plenty of negative consiquences to deal with as things stand. The expense of the many medical proceedures may be great in addition to the likely very great emotional reaction to having this happen to his son.

At least there has not been a lot of conversation about how wonderful this particular type of dog is. I gather from the discussion that keeping one is something like keeping a lion and such.

You are also correct that dog threads get derailed. I speculate that the strong emotions some have about their pets may play a part.

but then you wouldn't be able to eat meat, you would have to call the cops because you hit a rabbit in your car, you couldn't keep pets (slavery) and the hospital would be packed full of hurt animals. I'm sorry I love animals and would not hurt one for the hell of it but we are not equal.

Good point.

It's different if your killing the animal to eat its meat or the animal kills you for food cause we all need to eat to live. But the fact that we don't treat them or any other thing equally is part of the reason why our planet is slowly dying.

This ^^^ I think this is 1 of them things people are never going to agree on, each to there own, but I believe life is valuable no matter what life it is and just because things are not created equally does not mean there life has less meaning, I mean after all what is the meaning of human life? It's programmed into us to put human life over others, that's how we survive but it doesn't mean we have the right to abuse our power.

Just my 2 cents

For last time, the animal in the link is NOT a dog. Its a hybrid wolf for god sakes.

Is that relevant?

I would questioning the father about why owning a half wolf in the first place if he has children. Many wolf dog breeders and rescuers strongly recommended to not get these hybrid wolves if you have children around. There is a reason why the hybrid wolves are illegal in most states. The wolf dog are NOT domesticated animals.

Yea ok I agree with you there, I still think if trained and treated properly there shouldn't be a problem but yea, I was thinking about buying a "wolf dog" before my daughter was born and decided against it when my girlfriend got pregnant. It's just not worth the risk because it will still have stronger wild instincts than a domesticated dog.

The second paragraph in this article is really interesting. I'll provide a link and copy and paste it. The wolf instincts are stronger in adult dogs and the one that the guy had was 7.mi think?

Wolf-dog hybrids are interesting and intelligent animals. They are produced by breeding a wolf with any of a variety of domestic dogs, including Akitas, German shepherds, Alaskan Malamutes, and huskies. The blend of wild and domestic genes in wolf-dog hybrids, however, gives rise to a complicated mosaic of disposition and instinct. Hybrids tend to be relatively gentle when young, but as they grow, they increasingly resemble wolves in their behavior. They possess the instincts of a wild animal, and the presence of genes from a domestic dog does little to lessen the intensity of these innate behaviors.
