Ornamental plant filtration-lotus part 1

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I believe the bulbs need to be fully submerged, but the rest of the plant will grow through the surface of the water. May be wrong though, never grew dwarf lotus.

this is correct. The bulbs are fully submerged and sittn in the hydroton. the returns from the sump are blowing directly at the net pots(baskets). the one on the right side has a powerhead near it blowing air bubbles at it. It is lookn like I might have to lower the lotus so that the lily pads can sit in or near the water. But I am gonna push it a little longer to make sure. Im gonna try and brainstorm a way so that it can sit lower in the lid so that the pads can touch the water.

I took some speaker wire and zip ties and lowered the net pot into the water more so that the pads can start growing onto the water. They didnt look happy outside the tank. Looked like they were almost drying up. So i have kinda trained the branches to the pads so that maybe now they can rest on the water once they grow a little more. If this doesnt work il have to figure out a way to cap the hydroton in the net pot so i can lower the netpot a little more without the hydroton escaping the net pot.

Possible to show us the FTS to see how it looks?

^^^^NOt really anything to look at now. Its not much different than the pics previously posted. I'll throw some up in a week or 2 once it has grown some more.

Ive got a few small lotus pads sittn on the water now. A couple more forming. I'll update in a week or so when there is more green :)
I was tempted to add a pothos plant but im gonna try and see if my other tuber is gonna keep growing. if it dies off I'll add a new tuber in a month or so. The pads look cool looking up from inside the tank.

Thanks isde. My only question/concern is why some of the older pads are yellowing and browning up a bit. Im thinkn heat maybe from being under the acrylic..?

Could be heat...maybe switch to led's
