F # is not important. What's important is that I know it's a pure blooded fish. Then it comes down to having a nice pure blooded fish.

This really. If the seller tells you honestly where the parents came from and what they are doesnt really matter if you call f bibidibobidiboo the buyer can make the decision if they want it or not.
Although i can see where the confusion would come in for further generations bred from those fish.

Just do like many vets do; expect this will not be the first and only batch. They might be monthly breeders, keep the best single fish or two each time and begin growing them out for some show stopping devils. Eventually odds and genetics adds up and you end up a specimen fish. Thats my take. You might end up with a devil which puts the two parents to shame, despite the place they hold in your heart haha.

This.

Oh and to answer your question pwnz. Ive learned that 95% of local buyer will not appreciate f1 fish or purity. If you dont ship to hobbyist chanes are you will have to find a local store to take them and they will not appreciate them for what they are. They will be labled red devil 6.99 like any other batch they get.

So the seller has to tell you honestly about the parents but can lie about how far removed from the wild it is? This statement makes no sense to me.

What i meant to say was for the sake of the debate on what the fry would be, if the seller says the dad is f1 and mom is wild its still enough information for the buyer to decide of they want them or not.
How are they lying on how far back they are from the wild? If the op says mom is wild, mom is wild. If dad is f1 i would ask where did dad come from and were his parents wild.

Still a lot more honesty and clarity than a tank at a lfs labled red devils. Ive even seen some people here wanting to id the "pure" fish theyve ordered from vendors and they were hybrids.

At the end of the day thats why there are reputable vendors and non reputable.

Now that being said i still dont know what would the offspring of a pair from the ops batch be.

Wouldn't that make them F1.5?

Just kidding. I would call them F2 (50% wild and 50% tank breed from wild parents) if you wanted to be correct.

I don't think Jeff sells F1 + WC as F1. He has told me when I asked the generation of some fish I was buying, one was WC and one was F1 so F2.
