Thanks, It seemed like the best solution to keep our fish and draw up more permant houseing. Once we don't need it for the fish I'm sure the kids will be old enough to enjoy it out in the yard. :D

Seeing your set-up makes me wonder.. did you just plug the side filtration holes and run all your filtration over-head? I can see in the pic your set-up w/ the pvc running back into the tank and what looks like a pond pre-filter and i'm assuming pump to pump it into your filtration.. I was looking at doing something along those lines ( ie like the old tetra small filter barrel filters) but wasn't sure if it was best to plug the filter holes or try and work with them.

If your going to line it with a liner, then the filter holes should be plugged. Otherwise work with the holes and I would build a stand to sit over the pond to hold a wet dry system. Then you can pump the water up to it and gravity feed down back I to the pond.

One thing over the years I have learned is never never pump water out of the tank or pond into a outside source to be returned by another pump. Always have it be run off of one pump for a return and gravity to bring it back. If you don't you'll end up with a big mess and possible dried fish and flooded basement.

Goodness No! I know better then to try and use 2 pumps one in and one out... I'm thinking something like a 75... water gets pumped into one side and it goes threw everything and with a hose goes back in... Just would have to build a "stand" for it, but I coudl also run some pothose ect easily enough. also contemplateing hooking a FX5 to the filter holes and useing it strictly for mechanical, then running the wet/dry mainly as bio. Though I HATE canisters.... so I'm thinking just pluggin the holes is going to be the way to go. The pond is on it's way but haven't decided with the pond-liner to do or not to do... even with my concerns of punctureing. being a home-owner is awesome.. yet horrible at the same time as most the fish funds ended up being put into our bathroom ( a need not a want... I wanted the pond..lol)

All my filtration is overhead...i did not plug the existing holes for filtration just simply put the liner over. 45mil is plenty strong to hold over the small open hole. 2 submersible pumps run the filters and there is additional pump creating a "whirlpool" and oxygen. Since there is a whirlpool the main pump going to the filters is placed dead center in the pool. It does an exellent job of removing all particles of waste as everything is drawn to the center :) . Easy and cheap, by far my simplest set up and it is the most stable due to water volume. The pump that comes with the pool is also decent, i ran it just as a powerhead for a year until its prop broke.

I figured as much, but stranger things have happened.

You could also look into hyacinths and other floating plants. Would be great to have some in a pond. IMO live plants can't be beat in terms of filtration. You could even get some large bamboo and make a rock bed with the bamboo planted in it as an emergent. Build a "small" lexan box that suspends with large gravel and use it to house cattails or iris or bamboo the list is endless. I can't wait until I am in your spot. Should be soon.

PS you need to finish your pond soon cause I have those things your I interested in....;)

IDK about nice... But I'm determined to get 1k+ in my basement in a water proof containment unit! >.<
