Can I take a pet fish on an airplane?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well when I pack for photography having tons of batteries, cameras, hard drives, cleaning equipment, lenses, cables, computer, and all the other junk its fun to see the guys face when it all goes through. So much packed into a backpack that is just stuffed. Im sure an air pump would not even be a question at all.

An airpump going through an Xray screening machine might raise a little suspicion.

because i have been dying to buy me a prize half moon plakat and would do this is all goes well !

If you have any trouble from TSA about your fish even with a copy of the email response, ask to talk to first the checkpoint supervisor and if not resolved ask for a screening manager. I work on the checked baggage side of TSA at DFW airport. Checked baggage is used to seeing things like body parts, medical research stuff, and the occasional live animal. If you do ship the fish in a bag inside of a styrofoam cooler it should be checked and delivered to the airplane as an oversize/animal, like golf clubs. That means that a person will visually inspect your cargo and you have the right to be present during the inspection. Hope this helps you out a little.

good news, everyone. i successfully got the fish past the TSA. they were really confused, and almost said i couldnt do it. anyways they gave me a pat down, and tested the fish container for explosives. they said they had to do a water test, but they never did. they also said they would have to go through my bags but never did. now all thats left is to get the fish on the plane.

So far, so good.... Best of luck to you and your fish!
