12' x 6' x 3' cement build Q's...

I figured as much, but stranger things have happened.

You could also look into hyacinths and other floating plants. Would be great to have some in a pond. IMO live plants can't be beat in terms of filtration. You could even get some large bamboo and make a rock bed with the bamboo planted in it as an emergent. Build a "small" lexan box that suspends with large gravel and use it to house cattails or iris or bamboo the list is endless. I can't wait until I am in your spot. Should be soon.

PS you need to finish your pond soon cause I have those things your I interested in....;)

LOL Good point!

I def want to try and configure in a FW algae scrubber, refugium style planted section for nitrates ect, and emmergents. My goal is to be able to leave the filtration where it is "permanent" and replace the pool in the future with a more permanet build... so overfilter the heck outta it. I'm huge as you know scott on going 10x+GPH on my turn-overs and I think this will be my biggest challenge will lie, but It's going to take me monthes I"m sure to tweek it how I want it. I wish I woulda held onto an old 70gal acrylic tank used from the older commercial systems... woulda been a perfect "refugium"

So I need to talk my husband out of more money we need for the house? rofl... I'm a dead woman. But I will def KIT with you about a few things i'll be looking for down the road.

ATM it's going to house the Garmy...2FLG,3LNG,1CBG.... and my TSN and RTCxTSN hybrid... both cats are still under 18" Hopefully this will give a buffer time/space for everyone to play nice. I have someone interested in buying my group of retics... so I may be wanting to pick a ray or 2 up from you scott.. And the 2' M dayi I'm thinking may be the perfect "sump" pet. I'm just kinda squidgey about mixing cats and spineys.. and the lil' fire eel is getting to the 12" range soon and down the road would like to put it in the "main" tank. I'm just trying to figure out how much time I have before "safe" gets "unsafe" because I know long-term haveing big cats with my gar and spineys and rays is just asking for predation.

Ray and big cats are possible as lo g as the ray is bigger. Eels and big cats not so much. I wouldn't do it at any size. I had a 5" tsn try to eat a 6.5" peacock eel. It couldn't, but it tried. You could do a flow through planted system on the return after it goes through your filtration. Then you won't have to mess with cleaning the crap out of the roots.

As for pumps look at Menard's Lowes or home depot. They have some big time pumps by the sump pumps. The biggest I saw was something like 8500 gph. It wasn't to expensive. I wanna say this pond is something in the neighbor hood of 1500 gals. Hit vamptrev up on what his pumps are. He has high flow on his tanks.

the pond is 1,100 approx on the site.. so by the time I'm done with filtration ect I'm thinking we're going to be in 1,400 range give or take.

and yeah the plan is for the water to go threw the Mechanical-Bio- refugium/scrubber- main system. the fuge i hope to get something wide enough I can also divide/use as a nursery/grow-out/hospital down the road.

Hour 1 of filling... about 3" of water.. lol this is going to take all day. I'de take pictures.. but it's just a pool filling with water atm... still deciding on final plans for filteration. But have the filter that came with it hooked up. will start the cycle with it and go from there. When I have pictures of anything interesting I will snap them and share =)

as for now the plan is to run the 630pump with what looks like a micron filter... toss in something small to kick start the cycle w/out poisoning the fish. thinking maybe a trio of rosy barbs in my community tank that have started terrorizing the tetras abit. because whatever i put in I am not going to try and catch.. I also have 2 nice big male mollies I thought about tossing one of the males in and a few females ( babies = free food!) also thought about adding some feeder goldfish or rosy's but don't really wanna chance disease... and by the time I QT them ect I could have cycled the tank, and I don't obviousley have any atm QTing.

Cant wait to see pics. I have been tossing up the idea of using a pool for my baby's as well. Would love to hear of pros and cons on how yours turned out. Only difference is im going to be running saltwater so would filtration be different?

Here is a diagram of a giant fish tank idea I would like to build one day for my house http://browse.deviantart.com/art/5-000-Gallon-to-10-000-Gallon-Cinder-Block-Tank-325380554 But right now I plan to have a cement tank pored along cement work for this giant steel building idea I'm thinking about. Such as if something like one of those large steel garages needs to have a cement foundation pored when you build it then I will have the walls and the openings for the viewing windows of my dream tank built along with it.
