my girlfriend and i are about to upgrade from a 40g to a 125g tank. we just purchased a 125 gallon lee mar and are planning on starting a monster fish collection. we currently have a foot long dragon goby as well as a 10 inch reed fish and a 6" pleco. were looking to get an arowana and possibly some cichlids, maybe a bichir. thats all still up in the air tho, seeing we havent even set the tank up yet.

so, as far as the bottom substrate goes. sand is what we are looking to do, preferably black sand. Any suggestions as to a type of sand we should use? Or suggestions for something different?

thanks for the help.

For black sand no. But for regular tan colored sand your local home improvement store should have pool filter sand. 50lb bag for around $6. For beach white sand play sand is also sold there for about the same amount and price.

Welcome Max.:)

I think that you're going to find from a lot of the more experiences members here...that the 125 gallon tank you're thinking of upgrading to is not nearly as big as you think...especially if you're thinking of getting an arowana (plus other fish).
