Cray fish as food

Agreed. The bigger ones usually fight the whole way down. Although my centrals figured out how to rip the claws off before swallowing. My old RTC used to just inhale them. Rip Catatarfish.

My mangrove jack grabs crays from the tail and smashes their head on the nearest rock or log. Breaks off the claws and kills the cray every time without fail. Smart fishy
 
I collect wild crayfish and then freeze them. When I want food, I just throw one in. If they are too big, you can crack the tail off and throw it in. This also allows for the small fish to get into the meat and gets finicky eaters interested.
 
They are very nutritious...but this comment thread HORRIFIES me. I have a pet crayfish that is a little over 2" long in my ten gallon. He is sooooo cool! He climbs all over the place, and has problem-solving intelligence. If you EVER buy a cray, keep it as a pet, not as food :(
 
Some african cichlids specialize in eating inverts/crustaceans (VC-10 for one), but the majority of them are predominantly vegetable eating omnivores. They can eat protein but shouldn't eat lots of it as it can promote bloat. Maybe as a once a week or longer treat. I wouldn't mind seeing what mine would do to some baby crays or glass shrimp though.

+1, but i know how the world works, there will always be predator and prey. crayfish are interesting little buggers though, i can't deny that.
