Guys who own pits and other big dogs, tell me more about this

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The Newfie in my avatar is my boy Quin. He is 4, weighs 130lbs and is a shrimp compared to his dad who is 220lbs, and his mum, who is 180 lbs. I also have a 1 year old Newfie puppy who is 110 lbs and 31" at the shoulder.
Newfies are pound for pound the strongest draft animals on the planet, stronger by weight than cart horses.....
Luckily the breed are also gentle giants and naturally well behaved ( for the most part) and good on the leash, otherwise its grab a tree and hold on.
Male Newfies can reach 260 lbs...still think you got big dogs?
LOL
:)
The other dog in my avatar was my English Setter, one of the sweetest and silliest breeds there is, sadly he died last year aged 14.

we have a pit. at first when i met her i was sort of worried she wouldn't like me and maybe try and bite me...because of all of the bad views people seem to have about them. but she is really gentle, loyal and loving. i actually feel safer around her. she has never acted in an aggressive way towards me

That dog is a gottiline dog. West Side Monster is one of the best producing Gottiline dogs around. Gottiline dogs are really big dogs, extremely lean and ripped up dogs. That boy has a really nice pedigree. A pitbull.... NO, BIG NO... He is an American Bully. Although that boy is UKC registered as an American Pitbull Terrier, there's a new registry trying to register these dogs as American Bullies. It's called the ABKC. But judging from that picture, he has everything that Monster Jojola throws. His pedigree is impeccable for a Gottiline dog. Very nice if you like Gottiline, I prefer Razors Edge style bullies. They are more of a medium size bully although they do get large also, but they look cleaner and retain more of that show quality UKC/AKC look. Here are my dogs.

No offense at all, but it seems to me that the bully lines (they low riders, at least, but the TRUCKS) are going towards making SBTs...

The 2nd to last boy is so beautiful, very sound looking. And what a sweet face... I really love these guys when they are HEALTHY and not overbred to the point all of their joints are sticking out and they're bow-legged. I really hope they make the breed official soon... I hate people telling me that THOSE are APBTs.
I just can't get over how nice the Edge/Gaff boy is, love the first pic... He KNOWS he's good looking.

bettagurl, no updates, maybe next monday or tuesday.

DLN, thanks for the info!!

for those that haven't browsed all the pages, here is a quick pic of the dog we've been talking about:

Exactly. These dogs are not the original American Pitbull Terriers. They are American Bullies. And I totally agree with you. I hate to see dogs that are bred so horribly that it's a pain to see them walking around all bowed legged and high in the rear. As you can see, my dogs are all healthy, and my biggest priority is the structure and health of my dogs. I believe in having a functional healthy bully. Straight front, with a great topline, and a powerful rear. And thank you for your compliment Bettagurl about my boy Noah. He is an awesome dog.

I have an Am. Bull Dog rescue. I've had him since 3mths old and he's a normal 95lbs. Even so, I can see why they were the poor farmers horse and pulled the cart to town. I can also see why they were bull baiters and capable of taking bulls down. This dog can jump 6ft from a complete sit as well as take my 6ft 225lb brother down with minimal force. Of course he's just playing with him (and my brother loves rough housing with him!), wouldn't hurt a fly, and is completely under control. I will not have my dog giving more of a bad rap to bully-type dogs.

The only pronlem with him are his hips. I can't remember who it was that pointed out the turned out hips on the pit being discussed earlier, also the fore legs being wider than his chest, but they are trying to inform you of possible problems with his joints down the road. I am going to have to replace the bulldogs right hip later down the road due to it turning out and his right hip being built down instead of equal to his left hip. I went in knowing full well that I would have to do that, but I couldn't resist his face!! What i'm getting at is conformation is everything. When people breed these dogs outside of the breed standard(too heavy, short, and wide) it causes major health problems. All in all I adore my dog and would never trade him. I love bully breeds!

The owner is a female who owns a lingerie store and when I went in there with my wife she invited us to take a look at that specific pitbull (she has other pits in the store) Was just asking about this "bully style" pits which I am guessing she is into pits that are muscular and big.
Even I have pits which are muscular and heavy. But rare women owns pits. Mostly men own them
