thoughts on aliens?

Whoever you posted in reply to. I'm not yet familiar with some of the members in the lounge, I incorrectly assumed the person you were replying to was a male.

Well, we must not be referring to the same person because they DID call people who don't believe in other forms of life naive. I just want to point out you can make your points without bashing the other side of the debate

Interesting thread. Lot of great points.

There are still places on this planet left untouched and undiscovered, like the oceans, which probably harbor life we've yet to see and new species of fauna/flora are being discovered all the time because of it,
You quoted me but your reply/post has nothing to do with what I said in mine....I thought I worded my post clearly enough and I guess I take people's statements too literally.

I agree with you completely, points can be made without insulting other members.

I understand where you're coming from. I really do. I don't think her comment was intended as a dig at religious folks, I expect it was more of an "I can't believe they don't believe as I do" type thing.

I can't moderate the Lounge or I would have cleaned this up already. I've reported this turn for the worse in this thread in order to try to get it cleaned up to allow a decent conversation to continue without insulting anyone.

If you could do me a favor and not try to prod those who disagree with you into a big argument, I would greatly appreciate it so that we can get this cleaned up without having to close this thread.

That goes for any pro-evolution folks as well.

Keep the discussion civil folks and be careful of what you say.

I think there is a good chance that something is out there, but I think that some people are underestimating how perfect the Earth really is.

I know she wasn't referring to faith but it's actually the comment about humans thinking they're special. There's a billion different forms of life here. I'm aware we aren't special, it's obvious from what I can see here on earth. However, until you find the perfect storm of an earth like planet or the perfect chain of events that creates other forms of life elsewhere, it's ok to not believe in such a thing. so how about some proof instead of some mathematical possibilities

I'm still waiting

All I know is David Blane is an alien. I kind of like the story from "Stargate" that maybe we we're brought to planets to work and mine them for our alien creators. So we're kind of like intergalactic landscapers.

My comment had nothing to do with religion as I don't put religion or other life forms in the same category but I can see as how that would be offending, for that, I'm sorry. I didn't intend for it to be an insult either, just that I find it hard for others to think we are the only ones out there, when there's so much we don't know. I'm not here to ruffle anyone's feathers either.

No we can't prove other life forms exist but then again we can't disprove it either. I'm very skeptical about other forms of life beyond our own but I am open to believing there's a possibility because of the things we know and have proved to exist. There are other things that share this same line of thinking, so I guess it all comes down to what you believe.

You quoted me but your reply/post has nothing to do with what I said in mine....I thought I worded my post clearly enough and I guess I take people's statements too literally.

You asked what convinced us of why we think other life forms exist and my answer is that we don't know everything, as there is much we don't know and our planet is a prime example of that.

You wouldn't think animals would survive in the depths of the oceans because of the pressure or high up in the mountains because of the lack of oxygen but they do. Life doesn't have to be flora or fauna either, it can be microbes or bacteria. An example of animals surviving in hospitable places would be clams, crabs, slugs, shrimp, etc living near hydrothermal vents which produce hydrogen sulfide which is deadly to most land-based life. These creatures live in a very unique environment and are able to withstand poisonous heavy metals and temperatures up to 113 degrees. Scientists still aren't sure exactly how these animals survive but they do.

Dont look at me im just standing back and watching the fireworks.

It amazes me how much you have to tip toe with what thread you start in the lounge these days. Theres always those people that can turn a thread about kitten whiskers into a train wreck.
