Vacation feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I do not have a roommate anymore. I can't give anyone a key to my house because I have a mean English bulldog.

I have left my cat alone for a week, but I would not to that to a dog. Cats are territorial and in the wild live alone for long stretches of time. Dogs are never loners and do much better with daily activity and interaction.

Dogs are not like cats. You can introduce someone to the dog before you leave and they will accept them as part of the 'pack', while cats simply don't warm up to strangers.

Thanks for all of your concerns. There are 10 people that my dog is cool with. Everyone else will be bit. 5 of them will be gone with me. I do have someone coming to check on him every other day. Thanks

As far as my fish. I'm going to feed them extra and put a few goldfish in there just in case.

Dont feed them extra right before you go. Your going to cause a spike in parameters from sudden excess food. Imo feed them normal the day before. Maybe a water change and thats it. SA cichlid will be fine.

I would do a heavy feeding a couple of hours before leaving followed by a big 60% water change and you should be fine

He didn't ask for help with his dog, and I can't believe people are even saying that he is neglecting it. Settle down. Honestly your fish could probably go without food for the week, but an auto feeder couldn't hurt.

I really wouldnt feed heavier.

+1

Feeding heavier will cause a spike in ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. That spike with 7+ days of living in it can cause harm to the fish. Feed normal and skip the last feeding they would normally have gotten before you go. Do a water change within 24 hours before you leave.

nope dont feed heavier at all because that will actually cause spikes in params which someone mentioned. Dont even feed the day of. Just wc imo

Most fish i ship (and most vendors and wholesalers ship) are fasted for 2-3 days, plus 1-2 days of actual shipping time. This is common practice not to mention how many of us have starved a fish for weeks to get it to eat pellets. Theyll be fine.....but i might go steal your dog. :)
