Nice! Here is what I experienced in my 55 gal tank. I aquired my male Ornate in 2005. He was about 15cm (6in) then. Initialy I did not see a huge growth spurt (but I really wasn't looking at the time). By 2010 the male had grown to 42cm (16.5in). Works out to 5.4cm (2.13in)/year. I got a 38cm (15in) female in 2009. Both really havn't grown much since. I am now just keeping them in a 30 gal tank by themselves.

I think that it really varies because I have see some people say that theirs grew 2" in a couple months or grew in spurts or didn't even grow for a few months

Serious a 55 now a 30 at that large. Sad sad.

Mine grew only like 3-4" in the 10months iI had him. I got him at 2.5-3" and sold him at 6-7"

You are keeping two 15 inch fish in a 30 gallon tank??? isnt that cramped for them?

Thanks Dr. B! My point...tank space will probably influence growth rate. Good filtration and surface area (my ornates are in a 30 gal breeder tank) also help. CB vs WC will also make a difference. The neat part of MFK is that we all have experiences we can share and learn from. Good or bad!

When you think of smaller 30 to 40 gallon yanks we think of the talks one made for fish that are top and mid dwellers. If you you get a tank that is more shallow but has width then they will have more swimming space
