So far, so good - from what I can see. They spawned on the backside of the rock and I cant get a good viewing angle. But from little I can see, they are brown!

The one thing that has me a bit worried is that she wont let him near the eggs. So in turn, he'll get pissed and start swimming back and forth in a rage and the fine sand clouds the tank. The sand obviously gets on the eggs. She's been cleaning it - hopefully not accidentally eating any eggs.

My memory is bad, I know there have been a couple successful blue spawns, anyone have successful black spawns?

That's normal behavior for most large guapote. Actually you would prefer that to indifference on the male's part. It shows a good pair bond. Generally the roles of the male and female (most cichlids) will flip back and forth between guarding the spawning area and guarding the perimeter. Occasionally either male or female will show aggression during breeding (I think) just to keep their partner on the job at hand. Don't worry about the sand. As long as the male or female remain fanning the eggs, they will be fine. Congrats on your spawn. Best part of having them is watching their behavior in the tank.

Whew, cool. Makes me feel a little better. Watching these guys are amazing. Best part of the hobby.

Should be close to wriggle time. Can't wait to get home from work today! ;-)

Here is the video of the spawn that I promised to upload. Please excuse the wifey and my kid singing in the background. She was playing her iPod in the garage. Hehe...

CrimsonFog, Congratulations On Your Gorillus Black Spawn. Your Pair Look Amazing!! Cant Wait To See Them With There Free Swiming Fry... UMBEE POWERRRRRR!!!

On day 2 of the egg laying, I had to remove the other female that was in the cave. It wasn't easy to net her, infact, I accidentally netted the Mom at one point. After I got the right female out, I was sure that the eggs wouldn't make it. The following day, the eggs were gone.

Then yesterday after work I find wrigglers in a crevice under a rock. There's more then I thought there was!

Can't wait to see what they look like today after work. I'll snap some pictures if I can get JK47 to come over later.
