maybe we ruined our oscar so it's our own fault? but I'm frustrated with the sissy-prone personality.
I had to move some stock around, including the O. I don't need to describe the drama, do I? :-I

am considering change up to a bolder & more colorful wetpet choice. but something comfortable in a 75G.
either alone or only with inedible dithers.
Ideas:
H carpinte or FH, maybe female size would be best
?

Experienced input, pls.

Coolest cichlid I ever owned and not just fiesty but beautiful was my female pike cichlid. She was one of the saxtilias, so smaller species... but man.. If I had the tank space... a low tech planted with one of these beauties anyday i'de do again. BUt hen I'de have to go crazy again and want another cichlid to begin with ;) don't know about carpi's or FH to weigh in there.

FHs are great ! Ive owned both and I like my FH more.. Better colour, more personality... Not afraid of everything... one damn tough fish too.

Mind me asking about whats going on with the O? I know they can be brats sometimes :)

A Texas, is actually the first thing that came to mind before I was even at the end of your post, lol. While I do appreciate their looks, I can't speak for them as wet pets. I do really enjoy my female in my community setup; although I'm not sure how entertaining one would be as a solo wet pet. She does come to the glass when I'm viewing but isn't as interactive as my O's.

As far as a FH... no idea here.

vieja by itself ,would be nice.:)

I love the look of pikes :-) , but want to mainly feed pellets. do pikes notice what's outside the tank?

+1 my FH has personality like a puffer..
@Luke & Canadian: I been wondering if females act anything like males?

my warmouths are very dog-like.
they're coldwater sunfish, or bass?

I think H carpinte are more glass bangers than anything, but that sounds nice right now. Lol.
I suspect our O needs some kind of tankmate(s) to build confidence and learn that pellets are delicious. I can't trade in my husband who created the monster. Llll.
O is spoiled on earthworms.
I moved him to a tankful of geo fry (for eating) and OMG, he acts like it's a swarm of wasps. you'd think he has never eaten any before. hides from his other fave--->earthworms. sulks in one corner. his familiar driftwood & fake plant is there.. lays flat on his side. swims cautiously, a little bit.
might get even worse if I tried rainbow dithers for him. online $$ just for a gamble. ?
I think "he" is a girl.
and bi-polar. In past, relentlessly chased everything I put him with, even bigger fish.
my husband said "he thinks that many geo fry will gang up & beat him to death", whereas just a few at a time were yummy. I was obviously WRONG in thinking that they would make him feel better about a diff tank.

I've never had any. pray tell, the behaviors you like.?
