My dads Oscar has had this for a little while, probably due to my dad being completely irresponsible and not doing water changes.

Can anyone tell me what it is? And how to cure it? When the light hits it head on it turns dark gray, from the side it's a lighter color. I know it irritates him because he's twitching every few minutes.

A big water change add salt and or melafix. I would personally use the melafix I've used it before on a fish that was getting the same thing. I don't what know what it is tho

WATER CHANGES!!!
Sorry had to yell that. Salt is important also. Ime melafix isn't all it's cracked up to be. I would also lower the temp slightly to help slow down the growth. If in a few days if you haven't seen any changes it may be bacterial and need some help with antibiotics.

To recap a big water change followed by water changes 10-15% daily, add salt(obviously not table salt), lower temps, get prepared to treat with antibiotics.

Your right its all that its cracked up to be but it will clear it in less time.

Don't quote me but I think you can use Epsom salt too.

I wouldn't bother with Melafix. I think it's expensive junk, based on personal experience.

Major water changes should be done.

Epsom is more for treating issues with constipation or internal problems, I don't think you want to use it here.
