i want to start making my own food for my green terrors and my convict that are specifically geared toward their natural diet. i cant find any info about the gt's natural diet and havent looked for my con's yet but since i posted on here for my gt might as well kill two birds with one stone. As for right now i feed them hikari gold and nls mixed. i want to try making food specifically for them to see if theres any differences in color, behavior and overall growth.

does anyone have any ideas or suggestions what their diets may be in the wild? i havent decided whether im going to make it freezed or dried pellets

yeah but i dont want to necessarily add flakes or pellets to the food my goal in doing this is to make the food copy their natural diet. but the vid did give me an idea of how im going to make it

Typically, to determine the natural diet of an animal, you need to catch them at various locations in the wild and examine stomach contents. I'd look for older literature for people who 'found' them for purposes of taxonomy.

I thought someone would have already done that i guess ill be the expeditionist on this looking for what foods occur in their natural habitat that they may eat

You probably want to look into how annoying this will be. Especially for two fish, you are talking about making "fresh food", so it will not last as long. Making frequent small batches is going to be expensive, tedious, and not to mention totally unnecessary. Look into NLS, Repashy, or other foods made with quality ingredients. Beyond subtle coloration differences (IF you even get that), I highly doubt you will experience any differences in behavior or growth. Food is just a small part of the equation.

Also, growth does not correlate with health. Hence why fisheries feed stuff we would not.

I wouldn't doubt that they did examine stomach contents. Many times aquarists travel world wide and publish monographs and detailed writings on fish everywhere describing size, water conditions, stomach contents, etc. Most of the fish we have never seen in the trade are still documented and named due to these scientists/hobbyists.

Unfortunately, internet users don't all read all the monographs and then update fishbase or family/genus specific websites for these studies, some of which were done decades ago (and longer.)
