Mirror in tank

Some of us use clear acrylic as dividers. People that use mirrors for short periods at a time because they believe that the mirror will bring out the colors and have the fish more aggressive. They also use the mirrors for short periods at at time because it might stress the fish. However, wouldn't the see thru acylic be the same as a mirror all of the time? What's the difference between using a mirror and having acrylic dividers since the acrylic is like using a mirror all and because using a mirror stresses the fish, wouldn't the fish with clear dividers be stressful all of the time. When I first got my 2 ZZ's, they would try to attack each other but it seems like they got smart and realize that the can't get to each other thru the dividers. They still sometimes try to get at each other but not as much anymore, Ed?

Mirror is a good way to enhance color and KOK in fh. However you have to take the mirror away while he's still interested in fighting with it otherwise he will think he lost the fight and it will have the opposite effect, making him color down and shrink KOK. Color and KOK grows in response to chasing away conspecifics

But wouldn't looking thru clear acrylic be the same as using a mirror. It would be like looking at his reflection all of the time?

Clear acrylic is transparent no different then glass. When you walk up to a tank be it acrylic or glass do your fish respond? Be it come to you or rush off? That tells me there isn't a reflection but transparency.

Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly. I understand that there isn't a reflection because the fish can look thru it. I mean, if one of the fish looks thru the clear acrylic, it would see the other fish and think it is another fish like using a mirror. However, using a mirror for a short period of time might color up the fish but then stress it out but the clear acrylic would be like using a mirror all of the time because the acrylic would be transparent and see a fish all of the time. Would this stress the fish out also? I understand that clear acrylic isn't like a mirror and is see thru so why use a mirror if the fish are divided with clear acrylic. I just wanted some opinions about it, Ed.
