Getting black arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Arowana are hit or miss to mix. It will or it won't work.if they are aggressive watch to see if it is just dominance or if it is more. They will kill each other if allowed.

I think the bully won. The bully won the surface space of the tank. Now the other guy is just swimming in mid of the tank. And he's not eating. I don't know maybe because he can't go up?

I observed he just pass the pellets. Should I remove him immediately?

Don't leave it in the tank. It will die. You need to try to grow them up separate and then try to mix or just have one.

It became worst. He's almost dead. Darn it! Too late to separate him. :( It all started when the bully try to go after him even I'm not feeding them, I should've listen to my instinct to separate him, but I didn't.

I think he's not gonna make it. I guess I'll just move on. Lol

If you get it in a small tank with a sponge filter it could come back.

didn't know baby aros could be that aggresive. No wonder all the babies in the lps were missing streamers!

sbuse, how come your black aros live in harmony?

They will fight to the death. It is the older ones that are more laid back. I have separated them 3 times now, they have been together now for 3 weeks or so. They seem to have established sections of their tank and they strictly defend and stay within them except for night. I had 20 blacks and thinned down to these 3. I hand picked the fish based on aggression. I got all with similar attitudes. Almost impossible to do at any LFS. The first few times they got beat up and i moved them for a few days to heal as they heal fast then tried again. Out of all my aros I have owned I have had 3 groups work including this one. Many many attempts at groups with lots of beaten fish and I have lost several in the quest for a group. Yet at the same time people can get random pairs and they work. Of my 3 I had 4 but they beat one and I was forced to move it into a risky tank and it got killed. Lots of planning and watching have led to my success. On the other hand I ran out of tanks to separate properly costing me one.

Also I have them in a tank with lots of tetras. The large tetras will distract them. I have lost many tetras since adding the aros. I believe they attack the tetras and that in turn saves an attack on another aro.
