What fish to go in turtle pond?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, I know. I really dont want koi anyway, but i forgot to metion that. i would prefer fish like bass and bluegill, because they are already used to the climate here. Im not sure who said it, but i like the 2 bass and bluegill idea.

I said that. And is the pond set up already?

Hey guys! I am getting a 540 gallon pond set up for my 6 inch red eared slider. I was wondering, what kind of fish can I put in with him? I thought about peacock bass, but I don't know.. any suggestions? Thanks guys!!

yup i think catfish is good, or ant fish which atlease 2 times bigger than your turtle.

imo thats not big neough for bass.. but should be fine for bluegills. add a group of 5-8 and you should get at least 1 pair or more that will breed to sustain... otherwise if you want smaller fish guppies and platies ect make great colorful pond fish... your turtle will have a huge colony to pick off to suppliment its diet as well. I use to do this and have a tank inside to overwinter a group of them to re-release the following spring in a much smaller pond set-up. I would do a "cull" and pick out the nicest males and females I could catch and keep them for my pond the following year.. sometimes the rest made it and sometimes nothing made it but I had the inside "starter colony" for each spring.

Once again for the record. Fish and humans are entirely different. I dont understand how people can constantly relate them when they are nothing alike. But even if people dont "cram" them into small tanks there are a lot of other varying factors. So just in general captive species do not reach their full sizes, and thats on average. Some do reach full size and some have been known to exceed their estimated maximum size. But once again this is very rare

Well I have a tigrinus cat people said they will only get to 24" in a tank mine is 30" +

People say Asian red aros hardly ever get to 3ft in a tank mine is 3ft

People say Siamese tiger fish never get to 24" in a tank mine is 24" +

People say p14 stingrays only get to 18" disk in a tank my biggest female is 24"

So you point is

The sizes stated for a tank was a good size tank

Mine have been in 1000 gal for 3 years and grown bigger than even some wild stated sizes

Given the right size tank a fish can and will grow to full size

Given a tank to small a fish will be stunted and die much younger FACT

Exactly. But this is a rare occurance though. You just happen to have a large tank that suffices for the wild. Op could keep bass in it. That pond Is more than big enough for a bass or even two. If you guys are using that logic that two bass cant be kept in a 750 gallon pond then how do you say a single bas can stay in a 240 gallon tank for life? The pond allows for greater space and the bass could grow to full size in a pond this large. Along with the turtle and a bluegill population. Its almost 3x the size of the single reccomended tank size for a single largemouth. This pond could support and allow the above fish to thrive.

Just FYI I have seen a 50" Koi with my own eyes
Got pics? As in pics of the fish, along with a tape measure right beside it confirming the 50'' koi.
I mean in the world we live in , there is a camera in every cell phone. Surely there is accurate evidence of the 50'' koi.

There are lot of 50" common carps taken by bowfishermen and fishermen quite regularly, included the "wild" koi carps.
