Disappointed - guy cancelled delivering the tank again :irked:

I did stop by his shop and viewed the First tank. It was built but not to the height I asked for. I asked for 24" tall tank. He made the tank 22 1/2" and added the black trim on the top to bring it up to 24". He said that's how he always makes them - 24" finished. Wish he'd clarified that before hand, I would have gone with 26" then. Now I have to cut new legs for the stands so all tanks are the same height ( just one of those perfectionist personality type things). Other than that the tank looked good.

Once Again tank guy bailed. Said he'd deliver on Friday, then for sure Monday, now he says tomorrow. Getting very frustrated as I have to build a platform and ramp down my stairs to get the tank in. Keep setting it up and taking it down. To get the tank down the stairs, we need to carry it on it's side half way down, stand it up on end on the platform I built, rotate the tank as my stairs angle off to the side, then slide the bottom out/ down the stairs while lowering the top down. I know it will fit as I tried it with plywood. Just going to be a bit fun! Gonna need a few guys to help. That's the most frustrating - lining guys up then canceling.

I would have told him to rebuild the tank to the height you paid for. Never seen a tank from any other company do that. If you paid for a specific height it should be that height. Have him show you all the other tanks he says always get built that way. It sounds like someone made a booboo and and is trying to pass it off. Cut twice measure once.

I did check other tanks made by tank manufacturers and sold by LFS's. They range from 23 1/2" to 25 1/2" with trim. I have enough tanks already to measure from. I have a standard 120 gallon 48"x24"x24" that is 23 1/2" tall and a standard 180 gallon 72"x24"x24" that is 25 1/2" tall with trim. This guy makes custom tanks that you cannot by in a pet shop. He says his finished dimesions are always with trim in case a client is trying to fit it in a specific location. Says he's been burned before making tanks glass dimensions, adding the black trim and the tank not fitting. I can see his point, but it was not clarified at the time of ordering the tanks.

At this point, I just want to get my tanks - I paid for them in March!

i would show up at his shop early AM and make him load them.
Show up w/ your moving crew and demand delivery.

Got the first tank delivered tonight. It was a beast to get in. I'll post pics tomorrow of the move

I needed to do a little prep work in order to fit the tank down the stairs as the stairs have a jog and the tank won't fit straignt down. First I had to do a built up landing 2 stairs higher to make a big enough landing for the tank to rest on

IMG_3389.JPG

Then I had to build skids with supports underneath to slide the tank down on the lower section of the stairs as the built up landing is almost 2' higher than the first step of the lower stairs
IMG_3388.JPG

Laid out plywood to roll the tank on the carpet so I wouldn't stretch or ruin the carpet rolling the tank on it
IMG_3387.JPG

Plan was to bring the tank in on it's side (so it would be 2' wide) through the front door and down the stairs to the landing

IMG_3391.JPG

At the built up Landing we stood the tank on its end (so it was 8' tall), Then we rotated the tank on the landing to line it up with the lower flight of stairs

IMG_3401.JPG

Once we lined the tank up, we had to pull the bottom out while tipping the top back and start to slide the tank down the skids while lowering the other end of the tank down to avoid hitting the ceiling at the bottom of the stairs

IMG_3409.JPG

We then slid the tank down the skids to the bottom of the stairs

IMG_3414.JPG

Onto Rollers and rolled across the carpet to the fishroom

IMG_3419.JPG

Through the fish room door just getting past 2 tanks

IMG_3425.JPG

Rolled it over to the stand

IMG_3430.JPG

Flipped it back onto its bottom and lifted it onto the stand

PIECE OF CAKE!! No Damage to house, tank or backs :woot:

Now I just have to plumb the tank in for a drip system, install the background and glass tops, transfer water, tanks and rays

Then...... Do it all again next week for the second tank :naughty:
