The work starts here. 20ft tank!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So you shortened it? its not going to be 20ft in your basement..

Not for now, I'm building both sides separate and going to place them in an L shape to watch for stress on the thin acrylic. Both tanks will be run off the same sump and butted up so they appear to be 1 tank. If/when I move I will rejoin both tanks to 20 full ft

How u like the smell of that glue lol... it is kinda hard/messy to work with, the tip and pour part is alot easier than the side u just put on and after a couple hours u can move the tank and do another seam. If i were u id get both tanks to the same point with sides on so u can jump from one to the other on the seams and get er done quick. Again very nice work and great progress! As for test filling give it a good week or so to let the epoxy harden up nice and should b more than fine on the floor with foam. Sometimes its still kinda soft after the 72 hours it says to dry. U can test with ur fingernail into the glue and ull know when its fully cured. The 230 i just did took almost 2 weeks for the bevels to cure with all the humidity in my area lately. Nice buffing skills aswell, Bit$$es crystal!

Ur prob gonna need another gallon of 40 aswell :( that hurts the wallet....i think i forgot to account for ur side pieces and the overflows, my bad. Made me sad to see how much was outta the jar already lol i know how much it is.

Dont get discuraged with the dry time of the 40 either, once u get more comfortable mixing and glueing u can get away with doing more than one thing a day if ur brain can handle all the fumes lol (i tie a shirt around my face when i forget my respirator)...the bottle says 40 minute "set" time until u can move it around, i became very impatient with the last one i did and poured up to 2-4 seams a day with no problems around every 2-3 hours intervals. 2 tanks should keep u plenty occupied tho.

Bro I only used 1.5 oz to add that whole side in, I actually ended up waisting about 1/4 oz too :( with this syringe it makes it really nice to add a even bead even on the wide walls. I was actually surprised how much the 1.5oz in that syringe lasted.

Thanks as always for the tips and heads up, here in UT its super dry. I tried to dig my nail into the Weldon about an hour afterwards and it was solid? I think I only got about 20 min of work time out of it.
I was planning on working both tanks at the same time but I was SOOOOO SICK of sanding and buffing today I just wanted to see a little progress for a change lol

Understood...buffing is no picnic, i generally just skip that part lol..its hard to guesstimate how much glue u need until u do it aswell. Crazy to hear 1 hour for a full cure, i guess my estimates are a bit off because i lay down such fatty (1-2") bevels with it. Makes sense it would be diff. Cure times for diff thicknesses of glue.

Ya I didn't do this one very thick because I figured the acrylic sheet would just kick most the glue out and create nasty puddles that I didn't want. So I had a pretty small bead then set the acrylic in place. I figured once I start the "tip and pour" it should redeem any weak spots that may have been created by lack of Weldon in the seam.
And I wouldn't know from experience but I would imagine the ticker beads would dry a lot slower.
Anyways can't wait to get the headache part out of the way and just start pouring it in the corners lol it will make life a lot easier!
