Electric eels legal in North Carolina?

I had no idea they were not true eels.
 
You don't want an electric eel. They get to be 8' and could kill you during a water change.

Only professionals with massive tanks should have them at public aquariums for show, and since you are asking a question on here I'm guessing that is not you.

Be like the rest of us and satisfy your phalic love for eels with a fire eel or tire track eel.

I'm not interested in eels and would never get one but someone I know does and I doubt he would ever get it. I was just curious because I thought they were illegal here.
