Would you let a total stranger into your home?

Nope.
If I don't know the person, there's usually a handgun within reach before the door even gets opened a crack. Can't be too careful anymore...

Forget arms reach mine is always behind my back or in my hand behind the door. Now a days you never know who's knocking on your door.

Well as I was working in my front yard someone was driving by and he actually stopped and gave me a compliment on my house. He didn't ask if he could take a closer look, just said he wondered how the inside looked and then continued on but it got me thinking.
Ahhh, ...the polished flirtation test. more common than you think.
:-)

well, once a nicely dressed M/F duo came to my door, saying they worked for the tax assessors' office, & asked if we had made any upgrades inside, asked specifics such as a jacuzzi in the back. I told 'em No. they asked about several examples, then asked if they could do a walk-through my home.
I told them NO. and if "the County" needs to look inside, that office can call for an appointment. I mean, seriously, unannounced knocking at my door? they looked surprised. too bad.
They could've been serial killers.

and the office never did call.

That's right, they could have been killers or were looking to case out your place for a potential break in.

We all actually do let strangers in,all the time,if you really think about it.

I was thinking about this too. Any strangers knock on my door they know they are out of place. Atleast at my house in ny maybe not my house in jersey. In ny my house is down like a half a mile gravel road. Absolutely no reason to go back there as its also off a road from where my storage barn is down there. Also the no trespassing signs should do the job, if not the many different weapons around the house should finalize it. My house in jersey is in a pretty good area but you never know. The jahovas witness people are really misguided by my dad when he opens the door shirtless, looking like a big greek hairy gorilla! Lmfao when they do start to talk my dad just usually tells them something to get them to leave. Sometimes nice others, not so much nice. Normally nice though. We had a guy once that came back 3 times in one day and my dad was just about to punch him because he knew he was annoying us and that he wasnt supposed to be there

we do, like who?
Cable technicians, plumbers or any kind of people we might have to call to come and carry out some service...Just a few months ago a young doctor was found dead in her home here. Thanks to the surveillance cameras mounted on the street she lived on a man who was later found out to be an exterminator she had called was seen leaving her house and driving off in his truck...Once he was tracked down and brought in he finally admitted that he had gotten into an argument with the woman and beat her to death.
