Hi I will be building a large-ish tank (compared to some on here) in the next year. I was planning on around 1500 gallons at around 3ft wide in your standard glass in the form of a 'U' or 'L' shape. However Ive just seen JohnPTC's tanks and they seem to be built in stone with a glass front, more like a swimming pool. This has really caught my attention and I think I would prefer my big tank to be like this. My initial thought would be to get the 3 sides with empty windows at the front. Then I would probably need the insides painted in something.

I have not done any research at all on this kind of build so have a few questions for anyone who may have experience;

1. is this fees-able?
2. if I had a 10k budget in mind, with filtration/Plumbing for auto water changes, what size would I be looking at?
3. Would you recommend this kind of build over a normal Glass build?

I will think of more questions as I go but size will depend on the size of the garage/outhouse when we eventually get this new house

With glass and that money, having someone else build it your only going to get about 750-1000 gallons, price the windows for the block tank as that and the sealent and filtration will be most expensive.

I'm looking in to building a 1900 gallon L tank and I'm pricing it out at maybe a little over 5k

DID so you think it would end up being a smaller tank if I go down the Brick house route rather than the glass. I have looked around and for £10'000, getting someone in to build all in glass I will definitely be getting over 1000 gallons

Yea that's with everything it would be.plywood and the inside of the L would be glass for viewing panels

Ya plywwod build would be cheaper of course, and I was thinking we were talking US $ so yes you will get a little more tank for your Money, building it from block you will get a larger setup vs building it from glass, overall just depends on what you want to have.

I think it would depend where you are located also, finding someone here to build a cement/stone tank or an acrylic tank costs a fortune compared to glass, hardly anyone does it but glass tanks are quite cheap.

We do make fiberglass tanks at work, kind of the same as plywood. much cheaper when you go big. Recently made a few 12 x 4 x 4 s and they cost just over your budget in aus currency. the glass cost a lot also 1 inch thick, being in euro I imagine you can source the glass cheaper.

Only disadvantage with cement tanks is once they are built your stuck with it. may also find the cost / size ratio for cement tanks - fiberglass tanks could be extremely close

I am after after size really. As big as I can get. Who said it doesn't matter eh :) if the block tank means I should e able to get a bigger tank than glass then that would definitely be my plan as I really really prefer the look of them, done properly of course.

I was thinking of just doing it slowly, I.e getting all the sides built in the outhouse and taking it from there of course I need to research all the weight allowances and paint etc it would need
