Hey guys, i got way to curious about the petsmart down the street from my house and i just couldnt help bit wonder what their flowerhorns turn out like as adults, so on their foh shipment day i went down and picked this little guy up. He/she is only like 3 inches and doesnt have any sort of red or pinkish coloration on the sides. His fins are a bit tattered from shipping but hes a great eater and theyll heal up soon. So any idea what type of flowerhorn ive got my hands on?

Hmm lol shoot :( let me explain.. This flowerhorn was different in coloration than all the other flowerhorns ive ever seen at petsmart, i didnt know what type it was but now that i know its a kamfa im a bit disappointed, and the only reason for this disappointment is that im not a huge fan of flowerhorns with massive major Koks. I like the flowerhorns that have smaller hard koks (yeah i know..Ha Ha) lol but anyway ive heard that kamfas are known for having larger than average and sometimes massive koks

It depends on the Individual kamfa...some will have massive koks some will have none.
This is my kamfa from petsmart who is a vieja hybrid. Juvy pic to adulthood with no kok

That one is nice but this guy is 3 inches and is showing no signs of a kok so I'm just going by that

Something about that fish does not say kamfa to me. yes the pearling is well established however its body is very long for 3 in. It has yellow eyes which would be possible for kamfa however the dorsal and bottom fin look like they wont rap the tail which would lead to it possibly not being kamfa. It should have a shorter body and mouth by now and possibly developing hump. It also looks like a male to me since i do not see a spot of any sort on the dorsal fin which female flowerhorn tend to have. I might even say that this fish is going to fade since it has a lot of black on it now. should keep pearling but will space as it grows.
