I have a 125 with 2 super red severums (5" each), 6 geo red heads (2.5-3" each) and 4 festivum (3" each) in it. I have someone who is willing to give me $50 for my red sev that is the duller of the two color wise and personality wise, so I am seriously considering it. If I do sell it (leaning towards yes), I want to get an electric blue jack dempsey. Would this EBJD work we'll with my current stock for life (all fish would be staying in the tank unless I get a pair of two red heads, then I would remove the pair)? I know EBJDs tend to be calmer than their naturally dark colored counterparts, but I am still curious.

You would have to get a ebjd theyre size or bigger and thats kinda hard...he should be able to hold his own with those tankmates

I have seen the ones I have in mind and they are 3-3.5" each. There are only two left, but they are pretty much the same size.

I would be worried about my geos getting picked on. The sev I plan on keeping is very mild mannered. It's never looked the wrong way at any of its smaller tank mates.

How much are they charging for that size? Yea I was worried about your 5in sev...its always a gamble choosing tank mates for just about any fish...most fish act different than others even of same species...I raised my first one up with different kinds of african cichlids of the same size until the ebjd out grew them, he held his own except a few ripped fins from my male tropheus duboisi...ive learned alot about these guys since then

My suggestion would be not to add the EBJD's.
Couple of reasons....they are smaller in size and once they start hiding due to scare...they will hide forever...rarely coming to feed.
You will end up waiting forever for these guys to open up.

They want $15 for 3-3.5" EBJDs. She only has two left and they are both gorgeous (considering buying both and rehoming the uglier one later on). She has had them a while (for those prices I am surprised they aren't flying off the shelves, but she just opened her store two months ago and her store traffic isn't very high just yet) and she has trained the two she has to eat out of her hand. They are in with an electric blue flowerhorn and two red empresses of the same size. The EBJDs dominate the tank and chase the other three fish around all over the place (they live in a 20 high currently).

I can keep it in QT a little while longer to give it some extra growing time if the sev doesn't get along with him, but so far, the sev has lived with a convict, geo red heads, keyholes, festivum, angels and neons and with the exception of a few neons going missing once he hit 4" (I immediately reformed the neons to avoid having any predatory behaviors become common place), there have been no incidences.

Give it a shot - its one of those "individual temperment of the fish" questions. Thats a really good price on ebjd - they're $25 for 2in in my area. My sevs were only aggressive to other sevs & large angels. I had HRPs in with them with no problem.

For $15 its not much of a gamble.

15 dollars for an ebjd??? I wouldnt of had to think twice...grab them both
