starting up a 180 gal acrylic freshwater tank inputs PLZ

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So do you guys think I should get the Laguna 2000 or just spend a little more and get the Laguna 2400. My tank is 180 gal. Wasn't sure if getting stronger pump is better?

Bigger pumps are better for filtration never can have enough.

Also I would add some puzzle pieces for a substrate. That is just me though. Do watch out for the ones that are chewed on. Don't want any chunks to get into the pump.

I have the 2000 on my 144 gallon, and if I ever switch my 180 over to a sump, I'd probably go with the larger 2400. Go with the bigger pump. Why regret it later on.

On the subject of substrate, what are you thinking? Rocks? Pebbles? Sand? Tile?

I was thinking eco complete or crystal reef. I like the white sand but don't want to see poop everywhere. So I was more thinking eco complete

Sorry no lights til tomorrow but I got my tank all up and ready and my water in my overflow is low does that mean my drains is to fast for my pump?

It sounds like you need a durso standpipe; do a google search and you can find instructions on how to build one. You can build them really easily from basic PVC or ABS parts from your local hardware store. I built Durso standpipes for my tank to avoid the water crashing down to my bulkhead drains. This would resolve your issue if I am understanding you correctly.

And here's one of them in action in one of my overflow towers:
