Good day guys! My 6" Vittatus got beaten up by my 6" African Pike Tetra. My Vittatus chip off half of its tail. Ive seen what my pike did to my vittatus. Will the tail of my vittatus will grow back and how long? Ive transfer my vittatus in my 75g tank. Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much for your comment guys! I just love this fella and its non live train. Ill be replacing my Pike to a H. Scomb..

haha, that's nothing. Mine beat each other up much worse than that and it grows back like new. I've had fish with half missing dorsal fins and it grows back.

They get half a dorsal fin amputated and it grows back like new? Damn that's impressive. I'd have figured there would be some sort of deformity to it.

About how long does it normally take to grow back for you?

My Vittatus lost the majority of its lower half of caudal when it jumped tank. It grew back with no visible deformities or scarring. Took it appx 2 months to fully redevelop and longer for color to return.

Fishes ability to heal can be really impressive. I have had several fish loose their caudal fin right near the base and/or including the base and they always grow back. Some you would never know, other would have slight change of color. When I used to have a south american lungfish, his tail was bitten off just shy of the anus. Anyone that didn't know his history would have no idea that he ever lost his tail.
