Best way to take away tank smell.

get or borrow one of those urine detecting lights to examine your carpet.
if pet urine got in the backing, humidity will cause the odor to be released (and shampooing the carpet can make it worse instead of better). it's worth looking.

And keep your window open with those automatic sprays you put batteries in and set a time for it to release the clean smelling fresh odor. Haha. But I just keep the window open with thorough cleaning.

amonia smells don't come from your fish tank... something else is causing that odor.. now if it smells like the local lake.........

Can always cut a fart next to the tank and then it may not seem so bad.

hmm live in the projects.... could be bad plumbing somewhere collecting around your apartment... might be too close to a bar and everyone peeing out your apartment or maybe in a stairwell...

My water heater does leak witch my landlord has yet to repair. But it's not neither of the others. Only pee I can think of is animals outside like skunks and deer. Also the building isn't how you are thinking.
