Bichir slime or poop?

What are those slimy brown things that look like wrapped something? I always find them either at the bottom or sticking to the glass on the surface of the water. All my bichirs are babies maybe that has something to do with those things? Thanks! Im also growing out my 2" endlis and 3" del in a 5 gal tank. Is that okay? They've plenty of room and lots of hiding spots. Also, how often should I do water changes? I have a sponge filter in there with them, would that be enough? Thanks again. These guys may be small but they eat a lot!

it's poop............ and for the little ones in that small of a tank i'd do them every 2-3 days

Thanks for the replies! I thought they were some kind of slime cause those things look kinda big for my babies haha. I also do a 50% wc every other day would that be okay?

50% is ok IMO as long as your fish are not constantly becoming stressed and you keep the good bacteria circulating. Should be good for them.

They dont seem to get stressed. They still eat a lot except for my smaller endli. He easily freaks out and I havent seen him eat for a couple of days. :/

Another question, would it be okay if I feed them small slices of frozen cream dori (pangasius) fillet? Theyre used to eating carnivore sinking pellets and frozen bloodworms. I wanted to introduce more food variety while theyre still small.

+1 my polys LOVE tilapia, just threw in some scallops for the first time and they're enjoying themselves lol but catfish, tilapia, silversides, occasionally beefheart

also, catfish fillets are said to clear bloat.
