Went to the neighborhood lake with my bass rod (20 or 30# braided, cant remember) and my 4'6" ultralight (4# mono). Bass rod had shrimp for bass, cats or bowfin, ultralight had crawlers for pan fish. Any guesses as to which set up hooked a carp the size of my thigh on 2 occassions?

The ultralight. Any pics of the carp?

Headed out to my pond for about an hour and caught 3 smaller bass. I think it might have just been my other rod because I have had 0 birds nests and i can cast insanely far on my new skeet reese tournament pro reel paired with a 7 foot abu garcia vendetta rod. It is great. Hopefully I can go to wooddale lake tommorow and fish all day but I look like a lobster because of my terrible sunburn so im not too sure. Im loving this combo though. Absolutely slams any sized bass. Ive been fishing on a paddle boat lol not like a jon boat like a foot pedal paddle boat. Its about 10' and has the two front seats and 2 back seats with a transom mount which I might put my motor on next weekend.

Nope never got it in. The first one was lazy and I was able to play with it a little before it got pissed off and decided to run. The second time I never even got the rod in my hand, saw it break the surface and then it was gone.

Going to try targeting them for a while, I've seen their pectoral fins come out of the water and they're bigger than my hands.

Ha wow that sucks. Pick up a thicker line and maybe a larger rod if they are breaking your line. Id say a 7' ugly stick paired with a shimano sahara or something similar with 10lb test should definetly do the job. Or if not then you can always pick up a cheap baitcaster and rig that with 20lb braid. I havent had a fish get off my one baitcaster yet. The other one the same thing if im using braid. I got my 12lb mono snapped like it was 2lb test though by an 8+ pound bass. I havent had anything snap my braid yet thogh *knock on wood* and a baitcaster will allow you to keep a lot more line giving the carp alot more room to run with.

Next time I'm just bringing my 7' mojo bass with shimano symetre and 20# braided. They seem to be nibblers so 1 rod in my hands at all times is probably my best bet, atleast for me and my skill level.

Yeah and dont be afraid to let them run because they sure will run.

My goal this year is to catch a bass each day for my summer. As long as I can I will.

I wish I could do this but fishing just isnt an option near me. I have to drive like 20 minutes to get to the nearest park with a lake where the bass fishing is terrible anyways because 90% of the big bass have been caught. Then only place for good bass fishing is my pond in ny which is 1 hour and like 20 minute drive. Hard to get up there. But I will be heading to pa and see where I can bass fish there.
