Thanks man :) This female is a beast, she's coloring up a lot faster than the rest so I can't wait to see how she turns out. What age/size do they typically start spawning at? She's acting ready but the male doesn't know what to do with her so I'm thinking at least a few more months til he's mature enough

It might be the opposite of what you are thinking. Males are usually dominant when it comes to choosing and dancing with a mate

This is very true, but I actually purchased them in two separate groups of two (2 females and then 2 males a few weeks later because I decided to try for a pair lol). It's definitely still possible they aren't what we thought, but like I told AJ I trust his judgment more than most when it comes to festae ;) The females are also an inch bigger than the males which makes a small difference in temperament at this size. She went crazy when I added the males tho and immediately singled this one out slapping him around, then proceeded to kill the other male overnight and chased the other female out of the only 3'' opening in my hood (now fully covered like it should have been). I was sure I lost that jumper too but she twitched in my hand and is doing good a few weeks later, I dont think I'll be putting her back in with the psycho one tho lol

How is the aggression towards its mate? Is it similar as you described

I like the picture u caught of the festae's lips/mouth extending. Crazy how natures creatures live and function.

I have never seen a bad picture of a festae. Just bad lighting. Thanks for sharing everyone. Keep the festae love alive.

She actually is pretty aggressive towards the male but nowhere near as bad as she was with the other two. Instead of chasing and biting him nonstop she stops short to flare up and display her fins. Honestly it does act more like a male but I think it's just a dominant female, once the other one gets bigger it will be easier to tell for sure

I would divide em till they can bond. My male acted the same way till I found his female dead yesterday. It's better safe then sorry

Dang I'm sorry to hear that, sounds like it happened just as unexpectedly as mine did. I was surprised because he barely had a scratch and thought the tank must've crashed or something, but it tested at 0/0/10 so I guess she did enough damage to cause internal injuries. Separating the last male to be safe is a good idea, I'll probably keep him divided between the two females to build his confidence ;)

Thanks. it happened so unexpected they were fine for the pasted three weeks and she was preparing for eggs for the past couple days then yesterday he was fallowing her around till she felt to the other side of the tank and BAM! I heard a thud in the tank and she was kinda twitching for a couple seconds then lights out. He must have jetted across the tank full speed and rammed her in the side hard enough to kill her.
