Hi
I have 2 female motoro one 15 inch disk and one 13 inch and a fully matured 3 year old male who is 13 inch they have been together for about 6 months now in my 220 gallon tank... And no luck yet
Regular water changes good filtration I have 2 fx5 s I wonder if it because there some other fish or am I missing something?...
In the tank there is also a rtg. Jaguar. Paroon. Brycon. And DAT should I try reducing stock?
Let me know your thoughts as I have never breed rays before..thanks

They should breed when they're ready. It may be that they're not comfortable for some reason such as the tank mates. How much do you feed?

I can guarantee its your water quality. Fx5 are pet shop filters and not very efficient . Your keeping 3 large rays in a small tank plus other fish. Add a sump and design and perfect an amazing bio filter. That tank maybe ok for a pair of those rays but Youl need to do alot of water changes .

Let's just cut to the chase.....Too small of a tank for most of those fish, overstocked and not enough filtration. Those rays will hardly have enough room in the tank to move let alone breed.

I also think fx5 are rubbish they are full of sponge with hardly any bio media

As for breeding its best just to keep the rays for the love of keeping them if they breed its just a added bonus

We've both seen worse at a certain local fish store. They breed lol.

You're all right imo... my rays finally started breeding activity when I gave them more space and the their tank-mates... no signs of stress in anyone.. probably a combo of small tank/poor tank-mate choices/water quality going up and down. OP if you really want them breeding I'de start troubleshooting. I just feed my fish the best I can.. give them space.. and cross my fingers. I had a columnaris outbreak a few weeks ago now and pretty sure my retic absorbed what would have likely been her first litter :irked:... If rays where "easy" to breed they would be a dime a dozen by now. they aren't impossible as I'm learning... but you need to ID what your doing right, and what your doing wrong... asking these guys is def a step in the "right" direction. GL!

Its the largest tank I can fit into the basement as my stairs has a turn and the tank need to be stood up believe me I was ready to buy a bigger one .....as of food they eat mostly massivore and smelts everyday... I occasionally give them shrimp and talapia .... I do 25- 50% water change every week

If you want a bigger tank in the basement build one down there. Or have one build down there for them.

They are easy to breed its just the litters of pups is small with anything from 1-14 be in the normal but other fish have hundreds if not thousands of fry

And you need big tanks

They are easy to breed you just need to give it time

My breeding adults stopped breeding for a year after a tank move
Some rays are more easy to breed than others
