I have acquired some Senegal bichirs for that Im thinking of breeding. I used to own ornates, but they get too big and I needed some cash so had to let them go. What I have are adult specimens - 1male and 2 female (from different owners). Whats the best way to start on it. Do they need time to know each other before they mate? They are currently on their own tanks and have not introduced them to each other. Do I select a pair to put on the tank or just throw three and see how it goes? Any input will be appreciated.

I've read about people breeding them before. He said that he uses small plastic plants no real plants in his breeding tank so the eggs, when they get laid, stay in place better. He also let the water get really dirty for a few months with out a water changed and only added water when it was need. Once a month or so has passed he did a 75% water change. This big water changed simulated the rainy season which is when the senegals breed and it worked for him every time. Once the eggs are laid and has been fertilized he removed the two adults so the fry would be safe. I think he said he fed the fry blackworms too. I hope this helps you this is only what I have read good luck. Keep me posted on how it goes.
Thanks for the reply @eglinlotus . I have been doing some research recently and found helpful info on the site. my main concern, is how to introduce the bichirs as they are currently on their individual tanks. It may be far off to the egg part.
@Dr.B - they are on a 2x1x1 each at the moment. I just got them last month. I have 2 spare 4x2x18 with the gears, plants, caves, filters, etc.

- Introduce them on the tank at the same time (all three) and keep them there till they mate and lay eggs
- Introduce together all three and once I see a pairing, I’ll take off the lonely one and keep the two for breeding
- Select the best female and the only male and put them on their own tank. The third one can be sold (or better off hold on to it)
- Give a tank for each female and move the male regularly on each tank for mating visits (stud service type – gigolo bichir)
4 IMO wouldn't work unless you are gonna wait 6+ months at a time because it will cause stress constantly moving him. He won't exactly pair so when he is done with one female he'll just find the other. At that point if the eggs are good take them out of the tank.
