Hi guys, I'm back, and "new" tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think the striped Raphael is that attractive ( sorry JOSCAR05) buy I really like the spotted or "talking" Raphael, I will have to do some more research. What other fish could I put (with it) that would be active during the day?

That's perfect, I went to a camp and I picked up a couple branches. Do you know how I can clean them? and what plecos would be good, something that would not outgrow it and not too expensive ( so no Zebras!!) All I really know of the top of my head is bristlenose plecos

Sorry for the late reply squidyboy. How about a vampire pleco? As far as cleaning the manzanita, I just soaked mine in HOT water in the bathtub and scrubbed off any loose junk with a nylon bristle brush.
I have a spotted Raphael cat and he's pretty cool--been in a 240 for a couple years and is only 6" so that's probably topped out and would be okay in there, but they hide so you may never see it.
If you put any Calvus in there, remember the water parameters would be different as they are African and require a higher pH, so manzanita wouldn't be good. It may sound boring, but how about a convict cichlid or two? Or, even better, one of the other nice, rarer archocentrus species?

today I bought some agassizii cory and some glass catfish. As for the cichlids I might just wait until I get rid of my Oscar from the 55. @MTBjake I like the convict idea and might consider it for the 55, thanks for the feedback :)

soon as I can convince hubby to bring up one of the 20h's we have... I intend to move my pair of blue rams into it and scape it nicely for our daughters room... your corys and glass cats should be okay with them.. though the glass cats imo will outgrow a 20 eventually ( schooling and they can get a good 6" each, imo abit to small for a permanent tank for a group.)

I might get some mollies, I like sailfins but they get pretty big and might need brackish. I didn't know glass catfish get 6 inches, I have a friend whose had theirs for 5-6 years and they are still like 3 inches.

I've always been into the large aggressive SA/CA cichlids, and I currently have recently hatched Trimac, Hartwegi and Convict fry and am in the process of switching some fry to growout tanks, feeding some off and rearranging tanks and inhabitants and I freed up a 10g and recently put Platys/Mollys in it and they've already popped out a lot of babies. I'm actually surprised at how much I'm enjoying a peaceful little Molly tank! Lol

I agree with you, I have a 10g with some guppies and the new color combinations in the babies from the parents fascinate me. I might be up to a different kind of livebearer though.... And will the glass catfish really reach 6 inches?

I've read that "max" size is 5.9", but avg adult size is 4". Still seems like a school of 4"ers would be too much for a 20g
