Finally upgrading from a 46g to a 110g: 48x28x18. On my established 46g, I have Eheim 2215 & 2217 cannisters, with peat, which will be used in the 110. I'd like to have more mechanical filtration in the 110. This is an interim tank for some of the fish. In the 110 there will also be Anubias. The stock list for now is:

2 Australoheros oblongum 1m/1f, approx 3 inches
1 female Bujurquina Mariae, approx 4 inches
6 juvenile Caquetaia Myersi, 5 are 2 in, dominant male is 4
6 clown loaches, approx 3 to 3.5 inches
1 L240 male, approx 5 inches

The Dominant male Myersi is already apparent. 2 or 3 will be sold before summer's end and the remaining Myersi will have their own tank in the fall.

Eventually this tank will only have the L240, Australoheros pair, A Bujurquina Mariae pair, clown loaches and MAYBE a few other small SA/CA cichlids.

Suggestions on mechanical filtration?

Thanks!

Make a sump with a massive mechanical chamber or I always use Otto internal filters, they are cheap, powerful and effective.

Thanks Nova 8. Which one for a 110 with the 2215 & 2217 canisters?

Thanks for the input. Just out of curiosity...... why a third cannister, aside from not wanting to see equipment?

I would retire one of the smaller canisters and run one fx5 and 2 AC110s - just me :)

Wait, so u think he should use one of the eheims plus an fx5 and TWO ac110s on a 110g tank??? U do know that would be almost 20x turnover per hour right? That's beyond over filtration, even without the eheim it would be overkill with an fx5 and two ac110's. An fx5 pushes around 560gph with media, ac's are rated for 428, a 2215 does about 140 and the 2217 is closer to 215. I would either replace the smaller eheims with a 2262 or fx5 and add ONE ac110 (if u cant do a sump), or keep the eheims along with two ac's. That should put u right around 10x with plenty of mechanical filtration for your stock
