The darker substrate brings the color out more so he'll stay like that unless you put lighter substrate in. Btw, that's a lap, not an endli. Really really nice lap!

thank you!! i was getting a little worried.......yea i was never into polypterus' before jus got into them about a month ago i posted a picture up when he was the lighter color for an i.d on him and they said endli....you guys would know better then me thats for sure lol but thanks for the advice and is he definetly a lap just so i know lol and stop calling him what he isn't......there are so many poly species how do you tell the difference is it all in the pattern?

Ya. He is definitely a lap. If you google each, you'll see that endli's have vertical bandings that kinda zig zag while the laps have the thin horizontal bands and get a lot darker.

Definitely a lapridae, and the fish was sure to be stressed by the bright light which your LFS used.

He was just stressed and was in a light colored tank so now that he is comfortable and in a darker tank he'll get darker and getter distinct patterns

He still looks good!

He looks great :) like mentioned above, they try to blend in surroundings :) my endli became almost white because of white sand :)

You definitely should get another one... or 10! Haha. But seriously, I personally love endli's, laps, ornates and teugelsis so since you already have the lap, you should get the others :)
