720 8x3x4 1" inch thick acrylic under built?

The 1" inch thick Acrylic is also on the bottom and top. Tank looks tight to be other than some 1/10 of an inch crazing on the seams.

That thickness seems to be the standard that large tanks are made with. The thing weighs over 700 pounds.

Do you MFK guys think this tank is under built and if so what can I do to make it stronger?

Also has anybody seen a sump like that? Is it an older sump style?

I don't see any yellow tinting and the guy I got it from said the set up was at least 7 years old and professionally maintained the whole time.

I really like the steel stand it came with. Ha since it was 38" wide though I had to chainsaw some of my house's foundation to get it in. :D

Anybody have any experience with this. All the tanks that i have seen this big all have the same thickness 1" inch. Well I will be filling with water soon and hoping everything works out in the long term!

If it were mine id glue in some 1" square stock with weldon#40 or #42, lower the waterlevel about 4-5" from the top and fill er up. Not very expensive or alot of time to reinforce it a bit. Well worth a bit of refurb for the future longevity of the tank.

What is the thickness of the sides? The thickness of the bottom won't matter if it is supported properly.

Thanks so much I will let my buddy know this. I want to do it for sure.
I would have to lower my over flow tower on this idea with the water level. Another buddy mentioned I should keep it 1 foot below top. The tank over flow and the over all construction is supposed to withstand filling it to the top. I want to be confident this tank will last forever. I have not seen a tank 1 and half and 2 inches thick yet.

Thanks again man I am gonna do this. Can you please explain in detail exactly how to do these supports. Is square stock pieces of Acrylic? My buddy is gonna buff the whole tank for me this weekend. I want to tell him about the supports.

Love that tank size, wish I had it

I would just do a tip and pour extra thick beads of Weldon 40 into all the seams. So to explain, tip the tank so the flat back edge is the lowest point by putting something under the front of the tank, then pour in Weldon 40 and let it dry for a day. Its like welding metal start at one end and pour in the Weldon till it fills up and that will make it super strong. Or yes you can buy the acrylic prices and weld them in but I like the pour look better.
