Anyone else like to hand feed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i'd pay anyone who wants to feed my 20" Aimara - in fact we often dare my uncle when he comes to visit to hand feed as he knows nothing about Aimara.

He spotted the teeth and refused though :P

If I had some chain mail gloves id be game haha

I may stop as he gets larger but his mouth isn't big enough to wrap around anything but my pinky so ill be good for a while handfeeding, its fun haha, my ornate bichir actually came up and grabbed one for the first time today when the wolf fish ignored it

One day, I was hand feeding my black arowana. I give him roughly finger sized strips of salmon. I dangle the salmon in the water at the edge of the tank. Normally when he comes up to grab the fillets, the fillets have enough integrity to allow me to hang on and keep him from ripping them away. He can't steal them. One night, he was getting kind of full and was losing interest in the fillets. I kept splashing the fillet around and wiggling it to try to get his attention, but he just didn't seem to be interested. All of a sudden, something came up and smashed the fillet and proceeded to splash water all over me. I pulled back the fillet and there was only a nub left with a clean cut edge. Turns out my GATF decided that he wanted the fillet and decided to smash it predator style.

I don't hold fillets with my fingers any more.

I would hand feed my 15 inch common with jumbo shrimp. He was well fed and fat so he was alittle slower. Most of the Time he would slowly inch his way to the top and then take it once I poked him in the mouth with the mp.

Last time i tried to hand feed, my fish couldnt tell where the food ended and my fingers started. So i use tonges now lol

The closest I get to hand feeding is with my s. elongatus piranha, I usually put strips of shrimp or tilapia at the end of tongs or a fork and dip it about a 1/2" into the water. Since I started feeding like this, he comes right up to the top of the tank begging every time I come into the room.

What a story - i used to do the same with my silver and he always ended up nipping my fingers in the process.

Anyone fed 2' Temensis?

Who dares me to try it?
