Please rate my sump...

If it works then that's what matters. For maintenance sake, I personally prefer a cleaner less complicated sump, but that's just me. I use 7" socks, bio then to the pumps. My only mech are the socks.

But if your water is filtered and fish are happy, job done.

Yep, certainly better to have too much rather than not enough. If your water is good then it's doing it's job. Is the trickle container running it's own pump? The reason I suggested trialling the sump without it was to save you a few KWH by not having to run the secondary pump.

The continer has its own pump but it only eats 7 watts so its no big deal really. See where you're coming from though.

What surprised me was the amount of crud the filter floss picks up even with the 100 micron sock.

lol, fair enough, that's a pretty efficient pump. Based on my electricity prices it would only be costing me about NZ$15 per year to run!
