720 gallon fish tank in San Diego needs reenforcement

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Too bad ur on the other coast lol...id do it for cheap...its not hard u could easily do it urself. Acrylic cuts just like wood. U could use a standard blade and mitre box to cut the 1" squarestock. The #42 mixes by itself also

Thanks so much man for your message. Seems the weld on 42# you need a special gun to use it though.

What about reenforce with neoprene pad inside an angle iron frame for top and bottom and girdle the corners with all thread?

Yeah this would work...but as an avid welder/fabricator its alot harder to get a perfect metal frame around an existing acrylic tank than it is to shoot some glue in. Weld on #40 is easy to mix also and no special applicator is needed. Ive built metal frames for acrylic tanks in the past aswell but like i said its hard to get them "snug" without being too large or too small. I believe it will be better reinforced on the inside and possibly cheaper as steel is through the roof lately.

Misread ur idea about using allthread and tigheting the frame on the tank. That will def. Work for preventing a full explosion lol but it wont prevent future crazing or a seam pop.

Explosion wow have you ever heard of this happening where people could actually be injured?

Well my 8x4x3 did pop, if the glass was not toughened it would of most likely cracked and then exploded with me right in front of the dam thing. So yes you can be injured.

Yes I was standing there holding it, never ever do that also lol. But yeah if it gave way anymore would of been dangerous and thats without the glass cracking so imagine that with glass chunks flying around. thick glass leaves nasty cuts also slices your flesh wide open.

theres a few videos on youtube where some of the bigger tanks do pretty much blow open also.
