Have you talked to the owner about this idea. I thought the pond under the mattress was nuts but a pond under the house crawl space is taking it up a notch. I'm going to subscribe to this I want to see how this comes together..

Not this particular bud no, but when i did the other pond she said i can do whatever i want with my fish and tanks so long as i dont destroy the place and fix or pay for any damages. She is pretty lenient. Even let me remodel the closets and the bathroom soon also.

From the picture it looks like you would have some serious excavation to do what you're planning which made me think of something else.... I would do a test hole first to see how far down your footer supports go. Digging down past the footer support seems like it would be very risky.

Basically from what I was looking at just now the spots are just uneven. Some are lower and some are higher. I would just be evening them out, but besides that I think I have a good solution. The deepest I would be digging would just be scraping a few bumps of dirt off the top to fill in the dips. I may not do that at all though. My thinking is since overall the ground is the same level with just some dips and bumps I will probably go with my original plan of just driving some re-bar into the ground and drilling the wood to fit over it giving it some backbone from the re-bar going through the wood every 3' or so. So I would just slip the wood over the re-bar. Easy peasy. lol. Then once everything is in place whatever gaps there are I will put sandbags so that the liner doesn't slip out the gaps. A small pile on each gap. This way I don't have to fill a ton of sand bags either. I will leave everything pretty much untouched except of course driving in the re-bar. It will all be very easy to remove though. Relatively.

lol you'd like to see that huh. haha.

another thing is that I will be reducing the size slightly to keep it a little farther away from the wall and the furnace. So new dimensions should be 14' x 7' x 2'. Puts this just at 1500 gals. Little more manageable. :) bottom will just be the liner in contact with the floor. The sides will have styro boards, and the lid will be insulated but super light with my new design. :) Cant wait to get this underway.
