Incoming 2-3k pond project in my crawl space!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If the ground isn't that unlevel wouldn't it be easier to scrape the bumps flat rather than using the timber and rebar as-is then trying to fill the gaps with sandbags??

Only gonna need like 10 or so sand bags so imo will be much easier than peeling back the two layers of plastic on the ground and diging. Will still need the rebar either way. Its kind of like an exoskeleton. The rebar supports the boards which will be laid inside the rebar then insulation then liner. The idea is that since the pond is braced from theboutside it wont need a center brace. This is the theory lol. I havent heard anyone with expirience in re-bar chime in so i guess im the guinea pig haha.

Sorry I was doing a water change in that pic!!! :P should clear up soon. Had to get out as my catfish were nibbling my toes!!

So here's the first real progress. I got the first four corner steaks driven into the ground. Went in way easier than expected. They are 4' long and about half the length is in the ground. They are 3/4" thick steal. There is at least 12 more to put in. This will be the pond exoskeleton. Biggest challenge was making sure the tops of all the steaks were level. I used a string and a bubble level to do this. So the deepest point is 26" and the shallowest is 22" to give an idea of the slope going 14' from one side to the other. Basically I decided to Use them as an exo skeleton and put the boards inside them. Going to go with 3' spacing right now and see how the boards react as I am filling the pond. Will add more if needed. :)
