Hello guys! I am a new member of this forum and it feels nice to meet you all..
A short introduction, my Name is Reyner and I live in Indonesia (a country in South East Asia).
FYI: Indonesia has been one of the biggest freshwater fish exporters in the world these past few years.

Freshwater fishes like cichlid, arowanas, oscars & etc are widely available in my place at a low price.
I've been wondering if I could sell these fishes at low price to you guys overseas. I'm also seeing an opportunity of exporting these fishes and supply them to local fish store abroad.
If you guys know something about exporting fish overseas / getting fish from overseas, please share :)

I know there's gotta be a minimum quantity if we are talking about export, I am lacking info so I need you guys to help.
:)

I dont know any of the rules and regulations, but i can tell you its going to be a lot of effort and paper work dealing with the different countries govt'a and their laws...

I don't know much about the business practices of Indonesia, but I would assume you have to apply for a business permit there, and set up a decent quarantine facility to make sure the fish are healthy and happy before a long trip overseas, and obtain a good supplier. Then I would suggest building a website for it and advertising in forums and such.

Welcome to MFK! Tons of help in here

Thanks for posting here!! Yep, getting paperwork is the biggest problem. Just found out that I need to have a registered company name first. There are so many fish exporters here in Indonesia so it shouldn't be that hard to be one of them..

You would need to apply for an exportation permit in your country for live animals, then ask them where u can obtain permits and regulations for the countries you want to export to. You would also in your case need to make sure the permits are for commercial use and not a one time permit for personal. You also need to find out before hand what the range is on shipping time and price along with the cost of taxes and duties that may be charged by your country or the country you export to.

Basic logistics info in essence. After that pricing strategies and what not are up to u.

Hey thanks for your help. Quarantine facility isn't a problem for me since ive been dealing with fish all my life. I'm not worrying about suppliers cuz suppliers are everywhere here. Yup, I'm planning to make a website soon after I gathered picture of my collections. And yes, I am still trying to find out about all the export laws here in Indonesia and all the things required.

Anyway what is the range price of Silver/Jardini (size 4-5) arwana in the states?? Are they easily available and do they have a lot of enthusiasts?

I gotta first pass the standards of export that the Fisheries Department of Indonesia has. I know a forwarder agent well experienced in transporting live animals abroad, I think he knows how to manage all these taxes and paperwork, but I gotta first apply for permission from my country, and that is the toughest part.

Well I am starting to think that this isnt gonna be easy at all since we are talking about export..
There's gotta be a minimum quantity for shipping as well

anyway , does any one of you know how long will a plastic bag full of oxygen last? Could it last for three days?

yes somewhat, although in my area only one place has them for around 60 american but they are only 3 in. I would try for something a lil more rare or maybe a special color morph of the aro if you wanna make sales in the US.
