I got my cichlids to breed about 2 1/2 3 months ago when I left for the weekend camping. Ever since then I could not get them to breed for the life of me. I even started a thread here, tried all of their ideas. No luck. So this past weeken while I was out camping, not feeding them, they breed. It dosent make sense to me!

Expect the unexpected. Fish breed on their whim, not ours. I've had countless fish that would lay eggs, but never get fertilized and I wasn't really expecting it, was just excited to see it actually happen. I've also had fish together that unexpectedly bred after being together for 1 year.

I think that the lesson is...you may be "over-caring" and/or over-feeding your fish. Your absence while away camping seems to have a positive effect on them.
