Beginner Poly for a 160 gallon tank.

Hi guys, I currently have a 160 gallon tank which is filled with a mixture of fishes right now.

Here is my stocking list for now.

1 Herichtys pearsei
5 Parateelopus menarambo
2 gold severums
1 rotkeil severum
7 frontosa
2 aulonocara firefish
2 aulonocara neon blue
2 striped raphael cats
2 featherfin syno
2 syno petricola
1 L114 pleco
5 clown loaches
1 Hoplo cat
1 Firemouth
1 Thorichtys ellioti
5-6 serpae tetra
6-8 zebra danio
2 x-ray tetra
1 rosy barb
1 denisons barb
3 boseman rainbowfish.

I want to try and get a bichir or two... what beginner bichir that doesn't grow too big for this tank, and how many should I keep. Thanks.
 
Well tbh unless your ok with loosing about half those fish i wouldn't suggest getting one as even the common senegalus will eventually get a hold of some of them. Also the pleco would have to go as plecos tend to suck on the polys slime coat making them more vulnerable to diseases and infections. If, however you do decide to get one i would stay with the upper jaws as the lower jaws would get to big and not just eat half of your stock, but eventually almost all of it. So i would suggest something like a senegalus, as they don't get as big and are active and aren't aggressive. If you don't care about losing some of the fish though you could really get any other upper jaws except for the teugelsi, weeksii, and ornates.
 
Ahh I see.... out of my current stock, which are the most likely to be eaten/killed by a sen, polli or del? And how fast do polys grow?
 
well it depends on the water quality, food/times fed etc.., aswell as genetics. As far as which ones would get eaten i would say anything that doesn't have a max size of 5-6" so pretty much anything under 4" max size could possibly get eaten (doesn't always happen, but it happens more often then not)

A ropefish huh? Won't they get bigger than normal polys? Or they won't get big but just long? And what is the max size of ropefish?

I think they only grow long and not thick. They have smaller heads than most polys so I theyre safe. But they may escape your tank tho unless its secured well including the tubes to your filters and everything. I think they can reach 30" as Ive read somewhere. Would take mighty long for them to grow that long tho. :)
