Tri color cichlid? Male or female?

Picked this new kid up at the LFS. It was in a tank with some others, but this one had the best color. Kid at the store did not know very much about it. Fish is maybe 2", and super interactive.

Is it a male or female? What is the actual name of this fish. I've come across tricolor, salvivi, and rainbow cichlid. ..are these all the same fish?

It's a Salvini. They are one of the top most high colored Ca/sa cichlids.

Looks like female. Females colors look sick/very vibrant in breeding.
 
It is a N. salvini. Beautiful fish! It is also called Tri-color cichlid. But it is not a rainbow cichlid. Rainbow cichlids are H. multispinosus.

Thank you so much I was really confused about all the various names that were being thrown about the pet store and then what I was finding online.

How do you think another one of these in a separate tank would be with a completely milk toast green terror baby and a Peterson's elephant nose? GT is 2 inches at the most the elephant nose is probably is 3 inches at the most.

How do females do together if I added another to the 65 wide that she is in.

The salvini is quick to eat and is usually only semi aggressive, unless breeding, then they are rather waspish. I don't know a lot about SA cichlids, but I hear GT's are called terrors for a reason. How is the element's eating habits?

Salvini, in my experience, can be some of the nastiest medium-sized cichlids. Way nastier than a green terror.

It could work in a decent-sized tank. What size do you have?

I wouldn't keep one with an elephant nose.
