Anyone enjoy the look of green algae?

A regular shop light with a regular incandescent bulb can give you that look. Point it at a spot and leave the light on. All for under $10
I meant confining it within little areas that'd grow algae (& a few confined plants).
so you sayin' no real plant lighting required for a fine algae carpet.?
that wouldn't grow a plant, would it?

I don't believe it will grow a plant(other than a house plant). I don't believe it falls into the right "k" range. But I do know a friend of mine had one on his little 10 gallon tank and kept the light on for about 16 hours a day and he had nice carpet like hair algae. Similar to what Duanes posted above

OK tree man, thanks for the ON topic answer., I do tend to stray.

I let algae grow on everything but the front viewing pane. The smaller fish in my tank munch on it all day and it lowers nitrates a bit. Plus, it makes the tank look a bit more natural.

If it starts getting out of control, I throw a bristle nose pleco in.

I love seeing some on rocks and driftwood, even large amounts are fine and add to the natural look quite a lot. Small amounts of plants are okay as well. Back walls that are not glass, yes, that is a good addition to the decor, especially in carpets.

A lot on plants, or any on filters /heaters / glass are not pleasing to my eye. Glass viewing panes I want to be spotless.
