This is a great thread. I just dropped a sunfish in my cichlid tank and it is doing really well. I have enjoyed watching the fish sort out their territory. It really brings out the colors. There has been no real agression...Just a lot of tail wagging.

Master b keep us updated on how the Rock bass are doing, fanatic291.....what kind of sunny is it, and how warm is your tank?

They are doing great. Friday evening I will be adding a few more Warmouth, I only have two, would like about 5 or 6.

Ive always liked goggle eyes (Rock Bass and Warmouths) In my neck of the woods we have a subspecies of Rockbass called Ozark Bass, theyre a little smaller with markings that are in a row Ive always wanted to keep them but since my divorce I haven't been able to.

I ended up seeing a ton of parasites on the bluegill that I threw in my tank, so I converted him into frozen fish pellets for my cichlids. I think I am going to get some smaller sunfish next spring. Hopefully I will have a better chance of not having worms introduced to my tank.

Over night I lost my big Hognose, he was the one with an up-turned or what looked like a rolled up sucker, compared to the other and others bigger than him online. The smaller guy is doing fine at the moment, I watch him sift thru the gravel all the time. Last night I got another Rock Bass so now I have two.

My hognose died like that too :( his sucker just got all inflamed and he died after a couple of weeks. I didnt have to catch mine though; I can get them at the bait store for cheap.

Have you considered getting any bowfin? I haven't read this entire thread so if you said it before I probably missed it lol

Yea, I had in my last native 265 tank, but he was a trouble maker. When I set this tank up I told my self either I'm going to get one monster bowfin or a bunch of fish as I have now, whichever comes first. Since bowfin are about 2 hours from me I just went over the hill and caught what I wanted.

Im not sure why the hogs died, the big one had a rolled up sucker since the day I got him, the smaller one was perfect, both sifted thru the rocks often. I wonder if they need more current. I'm going to get a few koralinas and try it again. Plus the tank is is better shape than it was when they were in there.

I asked the bait shop if they ever get any but they dont.

Actually Ozark Bass is not a subspecies of Rock Bass but completely separated species. Just have to correct your information.
