my heater (6 years old) just went pop, luckily it didnt kill my Flowerhorn, so i bought a new 300w heater earlier, do you think 1 300w is enough for a 260l long term? because i have a feeling my old heater may of gone pop because of constant usage?

I use a 150w on my 55g on the lowest setting and it keeps my tank at 80 year round. I'm sure a 300w is more than enough for a 250l

Sent from my mind to my fingers to my phone to the MFK servers to you

1W/L is the rule of thumb but that can be affected by the temperature of the room your tank is located in.

I wouldn't put a 300 watt heater in a 69 gallon tank. If the thermostat on the heater ever gets stuck, you will cook your fish.

+1

Two smaller heaters (e.g, 100-125w) will be fine and if one dies, the other can maintain heat, while if one gets stuck on high it won't be strong enough to cook the pets. Electricity is consumed by total wattage not # of heaters, and neither runs when the required temp is hit.

Plus 2 lets you place them at opposite ends of the tank which encourages better heat distribution.

Agree, this is a much better solution.
